Mike and Cam do a tequila blind tasting with 5 different tequilas and Mike tries to stump Cam with tequila trivia. They also talk about some fascinating and surprising facts about this fabulous gluten free spirit! Play along with the boys and tell us which ones are your favorites.
Mike and Cam are excited to welcome Josh Schieffer to the podcast. In 2010 Josh, along with his wife Jayme, founded the Gluten Free Awards, an industry awards program designed to connect those with Celiac Disease to the best products and services. He has published several bestselling books and continues to be a Celiac advocate. We talk to Josh about how he got started with the awards and Buyers Guide and some of the challenges that they have faced to make sure that they bring our community the best information possible.
Mike and Cam discuss a number of recent labeling issues and blunders, including a couple of product recalls in the U.S. and abroad. Gluten free labeling seems to be improving overall, but there is still work to be done. Thanks to Gluten free Watchdog (@GFWathchdog) for bringing these issues to the forefront. Also, Cam's dog, Lacy, makes an interesting discovery during her gluten detection training.
Mike and Cam ponder the results of a new Columbia University study that shows that people with celiac disease who are hypervigilent about their gluten free diet actually have a lower quality of life. While we are not surprised about these findings, we talk about how it relates to our own lives and work on solutions that can help all celiacs have a better quality of life overall. We also want to thank Beyond Celiac for publishing an article about the study, which we reference in the podcast.
